6/5
Today was a big travel day from Alberobella to Sicily. We drove through Puglia, and then Calabria all the way down to the foot, ankle and toe of Italy. Everyone on the bus was very concerned for Gab's ankle and we were all thankful for being on the bus rather than walking. However Gab had recovered and was able to walk without horrendous pain. We went on a vehicular ferry across to Sicily from Messina in Calabria. The Mediterranean was a beautiful azzure as you can see from the photos below. Spectacular. While on the ferry, we were able to get off the bus and given 15 minutes on the 20 minute ride, to go on deck and take photos. Stairs again but great views from the deck.
The beach nearby. Grey sand and pebbles but the water felt great on my battered ankles. (Why don't they have nice sand like we do?)

Finally we arrived at the Sant Alphio Garden Hotel and Spa at Giardini Naxos, outside Taormina right on the beach.
