Another beautiful day in Rome. Sunny and cool and perfect. And to add to the perfection, it is a public holiday for Labour Day. As a result, all the native Romans have escaped from the city and fled to the beach. Tourists and poorly paid hospitality staff remain.
Today we met up with a friend of Paul's who is travelling Europe with wife and 2 kids. A brave man.
We met at the Fontana di Trevi even with thousands of people crowding around. Right on time.
He and Paul needed a drink. When a man's got a thirst, etc...
,
And then in the afternoon, we were picked up by Gab's cousin's daughter Tizziana and her husband Carmino who were taking us to the beach with all the locals. But first a detour to pick up Tizziana's mother, Manuela and the 2 boys, Samuelo and Gabriele.
Manuela lives in apartments on the outskirts of Rome with thousands of other Romans. These apartments look a bit like council estates in England but are sought after.
From there we went to the beach at Cervetti where Alessandro, husband of Laura, Tiziana's sister, works in a restaurant/ bar on the beach. Great looking place but the sand was black due to the volcanic rock nearby. It looked and acted like dirt. I could not mention the golden sands of our beaches but...

And after a few drinks and wonderful fresh seafood, we were 'desperate' for dinner. Thank God there were some restaurants nearby and we went to Trattoria Della Nonna, owned by Gab's cousin's daughter's sister's husband's friends. More pasta, more pizza, more tiramisu, more vino, more, more, and more. A wonderful night.
