11/5
Today is our last day in Palermo. Lunch is planned in a beautiful village called Cefalu,a charming fishing village according to the itinerary where we had a monstrous lunch. Lunch starts with Antipasto, a few different ones, then the primo which is generally pasta, then secondi, which is a meat dish, and then dessert, which is more than enough. Followed of course by coffee.
And a little taste of Lemoncello. Sicily and Naples is famous for its Lemoncello which is an alcohol filled lemon drink with varying amounts of sugar. They are therefore all a bit different in taste but similar in effect.
We also visited a cathedral erected by the Norman King Roger II, yes really. He promised God that if he won a battle which allowed him to be king of Sicily and Naples, that he would build a huge church. He won and true to his word, did.
That night we boarded the overnight ferry from Palermo to Naples(Sorrento) crossing the Tyrrhenian Sea (part of the Med) (Med is what we experienced travellers/sea farers call the Mediterranean)
With our tour companions, we took food and wine with us onto the monstrously huge overnight ferry and had it by moonlight on the deck as we departed Palermo and Sicily. What a wonderful place, so much more than mafia or Meatballs (bosses) and Spaghetti (members) as the tour guide advised us to call them as using the word 'mafia' has in the past been dangerous. Our local expert referred to them as the 'business'.
